Emergent Curriculum Approach :

The North End Community Day care Centre follows the Nova Scotia’s Early Learning Curriculum of Capable, Confident and Curious Framework. We support each child to help guide us in their learning. We value and respect children and believe that their theories and ideas are an important source of curriculum.

At North End Community Day care Centre we work with an Emergent curriculum approach. Here teachers thoughtfully scaffold, build an environment, offering many visible choices, based on the children's skills and needs. Our teachers observe the children and then plan accordingly. Teachers also utilize reflective practice, taking time to reflect and act on their observations of children.

Inclusion Policy

We recognize, respect, and strive to meet the different needs of all families. Your family will make up a unique part of our system. All families and children are provided the same opportunities within our Centre.

Gender

Identity

One of the most profound developmental tasks for young children is to understand who they are and to develop a sense of identity. Children need freedom to move robustly, reflect peacefully, cuddle with soft toys, build, have rough and tumble play, explore books, and enjoy their surroundings. Our educators provide a loving and supportive environment and a variety of experiences to the children free from any stereotyping. We respect each individual as unique and give an accepting environment to each child.

Meals

The North End Community Daycare Centre has a Positive Health Inspection Report as administered by the Nova Scotia Agriculture and Fisheries Department. Morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack are provided to children throughout the day. All snacks and meals consist of a healthy, balanced diet to provide the right nutrients to help your child get energy and grow to their full potential. If your child has an allergy to any foods , substitutions will be provided.

Sustainability

Sustainability is the idea that our thoughtful choices and actions take into account future generations. At North End Community Day Care Centre local food is a big part of our daily menus. We rely on, encourage and support local businesses for our food. We encourage not polluting the earth this way, we are ensuring that our planet has a chance to survive for another generation. From Toddler rooms itself children are introduced to the concepts of compost, reduce, recycle and reduce. We continuously expose and sensitize our children towards protecting our environment, being sensitive to creatures in the nature and saving water.
